Buy a good used bike. Have a friend who knows lots about good bikes help you find one. It’s a tough deal, but bikes you can pound the pee out of and keep running like a charm are not so cheap. If you really need to ride now as opposed to saving more $$ then this is really the best option. You have to find someone who knows what they’re looking at to help you. Good luck!
at that price new - you won;t get much …espicially for riding on trails. A hybrid for riding on paved bike paths you could get - but a bike that will take abuse…..will be about double that price range - at least.
Call bike shops in your city until you find one that sells used bikes - or find one on Craigslist - but you kind ahave to know what you are looking for / at - you can google any bike before you go look at it….www.mtbr.com has review of allot of bikes past an d present.
In general bikes sell for about 1/2 of (or less) what they cost when they were new.
The used market will get you the most bike for the buck. Any new bike under 3 bills will be junk.
In that price range even a good used mountain bike would be hard to find. It’s so sad that mountain bikes are overhyped and over priced.
The Giant Boulder SE or a Diamondback Peak is in that price range. A little bit of upgrading would make these decent mountain bikes.
