    It probably won’t hurt but you need to train your muscles to go faster. Your muscles can’t go fast if they don’t know how to or aren’t used to going fast. Run down hills (you have to keep up or your momentum will make you fall) and lift explosively.

    running down hills makes you faster, running up them makes your endurace better.

    Yes it can. As long as you alternate between doing sprints and taking it slow. If you really want to improve your short distance speed then take up Olympic weight lifting for training. I play field hockey and am a really short guy. it really helped me become one of the fastest guys in my school.

    Riding a bike will help but not as much as:
    1. Plyometrics
    2. 100 yd dash sprints
    3. stretching

    Riding bike will build up your muscle endurance, but not your speed.
    Only way to increase your speed and be explosive is doing PLYOMETRIC training and Sprinting long and frequently.

    Yes, if you peddle hard it will recruit fast twitch muscle fibers (Type 1), and convert slow twitch (Type 2).
