One of the teeth on the front cog could be bent and that would cause it to click.

hehe i’ve had this problem, it was my gears/ casset, well yeah i turned my bike single speed due to the cost of new casset, but down on your rear derailur, look for a lil twisty knob like a star shape n play with that if that doesnt work well get it serviced?

It might be a stiff link. I’ve had those on my Mt bike in the past. Turn the pedals backwards while watching the bottom derailleur pulley. When the stiff link goes around the pulley it often does not fully flex and you can see a “hop”. If that is not it are you sure it is the chain? Last time I had a tick like that it was actually the quick release rubbing in the dry rear drop out that was fixed by a little lube in the dropout. Pin-pointing the exact source of a noise on a bike can be difficult. Below is a link to a web page on bike noises. It has been helpful to me in the past including the above problem which I would probably still be scratching my head on.

Turn the bike up-side-down and pedal by hand.Listen to see if you can tell where the noise is coming from…I had a clicking noise once, and it turned out to be the bottom bracket bearings.

well it might be a lose pedal they will click if there is nothing dragging i would suggest tightening cranks and pedals

You probably have a “stiff” link. The first thing to do is find the stiff link. Do this by cranking the chain very slowly backwards watching it draw over the largest sprocket. When it gets to the stiff link the chain should hop a little. That’s where your stiff link is.

Next spray the stiff links with PB Buster or some other type of lubricant with a solvant embedded in it. Rock the chain up and down, back and forth until it loosens up. That should solve the problem!
